CIBO Partners with Gevo North Dakota for Low-Carbon Fuel Traceability

The future of low-carbon fuel production starts on the farm.

As clean fuel programs like Section 45Z move to operational reality, biofuel producers are under pressure to connect on-farm practices directly to carbon intensity (CI) outcomes. Similarly, producers developing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other next-generation fuels need verified, auditable feedstock data.

CIBO is stepping up, launching a new partnership with Gevo North Dakota (GND), a leading producer of low-carbon ethanol and SAF. This multi-year program will support farmer data collection and grain supply traceability across North Dakota, with participation expected from growers and grain networks extending into parts of Minnesota and Montana. GND will deploy CIBO Impact to drive farmer engagement, streamline program enrollment, and manage the critical field-level data collection necessary for their ambitious low-carbon fuel initiatives.

This deployment at GND is the first real-world application of our recently announced strategic partnership with Verity Holdings, LLC (“Verity”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gevo, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEVO). Verity provides the industry’s premier blockchain-based traceability and mass balance software, acting as a compliance-grade system of record. By integrating CIBO’s independent, verified agricultural data and grower engagement capabilities with Verity’s operational tracking, we have developed a comprehensive, joint go-to-market solution for the biofuels industry.

Building the agricultural data layer for 45Z

As the renewable energy sector prepares for new regulatory standards, producers will need more than just estimated Carbon Intensity (CI) scores to capture value from clean fuel programs. They’ll need audit-ready documentation to qualify for rigorous incentives, including the upcoming Section 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit in the U.S., the California Air Resources Board (CARB) LCFS, Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), and various voluntary carbon markets.

Ethanol and SAF producers must collect, verify and organize key agricultural data, including the practices used to grow feedstocks and other field-level decisions. That means tracking field-level decisions like fertilizer management, tillage, and cover crops across thousands of acres and multiple grain suppliers in a way that is scalable, auditable, and farmer-friendly.

Together, CIBO and GND solve this field-to-pump traceability challenge, with a 45Z-compliant end-to-end pathway that connects farm-level practices directly to fuel production.

CIBO handles the vital first mile: supporting grower enrollment, field-level data collection, program management, and emissions-related analytics tied to grain sourcing for GND operations. Field-level data flows seamlessly into Verity’s tracking software, ensuring that every bushel of sustainably farmed feedstock is accurately measured, tracked, and converted into verifiable environmental attributes.

Expanding opportunities for agriculture

While biofuel markets create additional revenue opportunities for farmers, these programs require data systems capable of handling traceability, verification and audit readiness at scale. CIBO helps reduce friction by integrating agronomic data collection, digital workflows, and sustainability reporting into a more streamlined experience for growers and supply chain partners. Demand for these low-carbon data system capabilities will continue to grow as clean fuel production is further embedded into the core commodity market infrastructure.

Looking Ahead

By empowering farmers with the right tools and providing biofuel producers with compliance-ready traceability, CIBO and Verity are actively accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. We have the infrastructure needed to connect agricultural practices, grain supply systems, and low-carbon fuel production in a way that is scalable, credible, and ready for the next generation of clean fuel markets.
